Discover Jocelyn Bell

Jocelyn Bell is an educational project created by a student from the Multimedia and Internet Professions department (MMI) in Montbéliard. Its objective? To make the Matilda effect known and to highlight the scientific contributions of women who have been forgotten or minimized by history.

The Matilda effect refers to the phenomenon whereby the scientific contributions of women are systematically undervalued or attributed to their male colleagues. This project focuses particularly on Jocelyn Bell Burnell, the astronomer who discovered pulsars in 1967, but whose discovery was credited to her thesis director.

Through this website, we explore how literature and cinema can serve as tools for rehabilitating these forgotten figures in the history of science.
